Second Languages: How They are Taught, Learned and Acquired in the Classroom Dr. Aski will discuss current theories about second language acquisition and demonstrate instructional techniques using interactive examples. Parents and students will experience these concepts and techniques in mini language lessons and at the same time learn a little conversational Italian. |

Neutrinos: Ghost Riders in the Sky The centuries-old quest to identify the elementary particles of nature - those that cannot be broken up into other particles - led to the discovery of neutrinos. If you imagine an electron with no charge, nearly no mass, and barely any ability to interact, then you've just imagined a neutrino. And in the time it took you to do that, many trillions of neutrinos passed right through you! During this enlightening lecture, Dr. John Beacom, Professor in the Departments of Physics and Astronomy, will explain the nature of neutrinos. |

The Current U.S. Economy: Housing Price Declines and Household Balance Sheets This lecture presents data from a national household survey based at Ohio State. Dr. Olsen will quantify the impact of recent housing price declines on the balance sheets and financial stability of American households. Dr. Olsen will also evaluate policy responses to the financial panic of 2008 in light of this ongoing study. |

Drive Train Research: Initiatives that Affect Energy and Environmental Concerns Drive trains transmit motion and power from a power-generating system, such as an engine that moves a car. Power losses that naturally occur in these systems compromise fuel efficiency and create carbon emissions into the atmosphere. In this lecture, Dr. Kahraman will describe how the research conducted at Ohio State helps to reduce drive train power losses, while addressing energy and environmental concerns. |

Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park is a campus facility at the Ohio State University, designed to provide teaching, research, and services related to wetland and river science and ecological engineering. The Wetland Research Park was named by the Ramsar Convention in Switzerland in 2008 as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. It is only the 24th Ramsar wetland in the USA and the first in Ohio. This is a one of a kind area; no other University in the world has a wetland research facility like this! |

William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library Tour The renovated William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library is the centerpiece of a plan to move Ohio State into the forefront of academic excellence. Housing significant print collections, digital information resources, spaces for individual quiet study, and areas for interactive group learning, the building's original, unique architectural features will be restored to their original grandeur. Distinguished rare books and special collections, now scattered among library facilities across campus, have been brought together and made available for exhibition and research. The library now houses more then 1 million books and journals. Chadwick Arboretum Walking Tour This 60-acre urban arboretum is named for Dr. Lewis C. Chadwick (1902-1993), who served 38 years as a researcher and horticulture professor at The Ohio State University.
