Sibs, Kids and Family Schedule 2022

Please note: This is the schedule from 2022 and is being provided her as an example of the types of events and activities that are offered during Sibs, Kids and Family Day.

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Registration and Check-In | Great Hall Meeting Room, 1st floor Ohio Union

As soon as you arrive, stop by the Student Life Ohio Union to pick up your Sibs and Kids Day packet, which will include a complete schedule of events, wristbands, and other important information. Your entire party does not need to be present to check-in (and students can check-in for the family before you arrive if you wish). 

NOTE: Registration and check-in only takes a few moments and cannot be completed early, as the Ohio Union opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  The Great Hall Meeting Room (GHMR) is on the opposite the Ohio Union Information desk (opposite side of the Great Hall by the art display cases) on the first floor of the Ohio Union.  You can follow signs to the GHMR.   

 

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. | Crafts and Cartoons | Morrill Tower Browsing Room 

Sponsored by Morrill and Lincoln. There will be donuts, fruit, coffee, and juice for breakfast, and activities will include Ohio State themed coloring, bracelet making, and cartoon watching. 

 

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Plaza Entertainment with SuperGames | Ohio Union West Plaza (College Ave. side) 

Have a super time just outside the Ohio Union! Race through an inflatable obstacle course, compete in a game of giant Connect Four and show your skills in inflatable axe throwing! 

 

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Buckeye “Booty” Treasure | 2nd floor Scott House 

Sponsored by Norton, Mendoza and Scott. Come join us ye scallywags! The Norton, Mendoza, & Scott House residential staff will be getting crafty and sharing our pirate treasure, or booty, as us pirates call it. We will be creating 8 separate pirate themed art projects from our treasure chest and enjoying some refreshing root beer floats and candy "loot."

 

12 p.m. - 12 a.m. | Get Fit with Rec Sports | Recreational and Physical Activity Center (RPAC)  

Come check out some of the top recreational facilities in the country! Parents and guests gain free admission with their Sibs and Kids wristbands to all Ohio State recreation facilities throughout the day. Be on the lookout for special programs and classes coordinated by our Recreational Sports staff throughout the day just for families! 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. | The Great DuBois | Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom, 2nd floor Ohio Union 

The Great DuBois’ variety show is a fast-paced, hilarious, all ages performance showcasing incredible feats of juggling, hula hoops, unicycle, aerial, circus stunts, contortion, magic, and audience interaction.   Simply put… The most unique two-person variety show you will ever see! 

Recently featured in Hugh Jackman's hit movie “The Greatest Showman”, The Great DuBois have quite the list of credits.  They include the Tony Award winning “Pippin” on Broadway, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, “Late Night with David Letterman”, Britney Spears World Circus Tour, and the movie “Burlesque” to Highlight a few.  The award-winning combination of Michael and Viktoria have 5 generations of circus performing between them, their very own circus tent, and have performed countless shows at theaters, universities, cruise ships, high end venues, and fairs and festivals all over the world.

Cheer on the women’s volleyball team as they play Michigan.

 

1:30 p.m. | Graeter's Ice Cream Truck | Ohio Union West Plaza (College Ave. side) 

I scream, you scream, we all scream for FREE ice cream! Join us to enjoy Ohio's own Graeter's ice cream outside of the Ohio Union. Hurry before it's gone! 

 

2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m. | Planetarium: Night Sky 101 | 5th floor Smith Laboratory* 

“Night Sky 101” is a new show at Ohio State’s planetarium that provides a focus on understanding what is happening in the sky above us. 

Note: Each show will be first-come, first-served and will be available to the first 63 people at the door. 

* The main and accessible entrance is through the doors of Smith Laboratory on the northeast corner. Once you enter, you will take the northeast elevator (or the stairs) up to the 5th floor. This is the ONLY elevator that reaches the 5th floor. Stairwells on the north-side of the building all reach the 5th floor. After business hours, building doors other than the accessible door on the NE side will likely be locked. If you got on the wrong elevator or took the wrong stairs, work your way to the northeast corner of the building and go to the 5th floor to get to the planetarium. Please plan on arriving at least 5-10 minutes before the planetarium shows, since the doors will be closed and locked once the show starts. 

 

2 p.m. - 4 p.m. | Buckeye Necklaces and Coloring Pages | Great Hall Meeting Room, 1st floor Ohio Union 

Ohio Stater’s, Inc. will be making buckeye necklaces in the Ohio Union from 2-4 pm. Coloring pages and Buckeye history will be available too! 

 

2 p.m. | Softball vs. Indiana | Buckeye Field, 2410 Fred Taylor Dr. 

Cheer on the softball team as they play Indiana. This event is FREE. 

 

2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. | Chemistry Demo Show | McPherson Chemical Laboratory, Room 1000 

What would happen to a marshmallow in outer space? What kind of ice never melts? Can a gas get colder than Antarctica? What exactly do we mean by “Go Big or Go Home”? Join Ohio State University’s Chemistry Demonstration Lab for an action-packed event and see how science can be fun and exciting.  People of all ages are welcome to join us for an hour-long show full of fire, liquid nitrogen, and an explosion or two.

 

2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. | Cartoons and Coloring with the Multicultural Center | Alonso Family Room, 1st floor Ohio Union

Join the Multicultural Center for some coloring and cartoons! There will be popcorn and coloring pages available for all attendees, and we will be playing a variety of cartoons on our projector. For additional information, please contact Jayden Messer at messer.113@osu.edu.

 

2:30 p.m. | Women’s Lacrosse vs. Penn State | Ohio Stadium

Cheer on the women’s lacrosse team as they play Penn State. This event is FREE. 

 

3 p.m. - 5 p.m. | Chillin' with HHoT CC | Stripe Studio, Houston House

Sponsored by Houston, Houck and Taylor. Join us for tie-dye, Buckeye necklaces, ice creams, and popsicles!

 

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Cardio Dance | Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), Multipurpose Room #3 B134

Shimmy and shake through your workout routine in a fun and exciting way! Cardio Dance gives you choreographed dances to the latest pop songs. This class is a great way to let loose and dance your heart out while working out at the same time. You will work your upper body, lower body and core without even thinking about it. No dance experience is required. Find that hidden dancer in you!

4 p.m. - 6 p.m. | Pair Climbing | Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) 

Feeling adventurous?! Come do a Partner Climb with your Sib at Ohio State’s Outdoor Adventure Center! You and your brother/sister will be connected via paper rings as you climb our indoor climbing wall in a race to the top. First, second, and third place prizes will be given out for winning teams. Shoes, harness, and instruction are all free and ready for both of you. Venture over and push yourself and your sibling to the top!

5 p.m. - 7 p.m. | Carmen Area Party on the Lawn | Taylor Tower and Raney House Lawn

Sponsored by Raney, Busch, Halloran, Bowen, Barrett, Nosker. Come out to the Taylor Tower / Raney House lawn for Corn Hole, Can Jam, music, Kona Ice, and food from the grill by Ohio State University Police Department!

 

7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. | African American Voices | Performance Hall, 1st Floor Ohio Union 

Come join the African American Voices Gospel Choir at Ohio State University for an evening of music, dance, and fun! We are collaborating with Parent and Family Relations at Ohio State University for our Spring Concert at Sibs and Kids Day on March 26th!

The African American Voices Gospel Choir (AAVGC) is a student organization at Ohio State University, founded in the spring of 1989 by Dr. Lee J. Jones. AAVGC fosters an environment on campus whereby students can come together to celebrate God's existence through African American traditions in music and art. We contribute to the community while striving to achieve academic excellence. AAVGC has three sub-ministries: Dancing to Zion, our praise dance ministry; Expressions of Worship, our praise mime ministry; and Edify, our praise team. Our worship continues to uplift themes of hope, positivity, and encouragement!

What's better than ice skating during Sibs and Kids Day? Ice skating for FREE during Sibs and Kids Day! Join us at the OSU Ice Rink for free ice skating from 7-9 p.m. (skate rental is also FREE).

 

Around Campus

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Orton Geological Museum | Orton Hall  

The Orton Geological Museum is located in Orton Hall on the south side of the Oval. Part of the School of Earth Sciences, the Museum plays a key role in research, teaching, and outreach. Explore rocks, minerals, and fossils from Ohio, from around the world, and from outer space! 

The Din*O*Store will close at 12 p.m., but the museum will remain open until 5 p.m.

1 p.m. - 5 p.m. | Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum | Sullivant Hall 210 (2nd floor)

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum houses the world’s largest collection of materials related to cartoons and comics, including original art, books, magazines, journals, comic books, archival materials, and newspaper comic strip pages and clippings. To learn more, check out their website.

COSI is a nationally esteemed science center that has delighted Central Ohio with all things science for 55 years, inspiring interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) topics and delivering our experiential, "hands-on fun" brand of learning.
